This is the master post of the nomination process for the 2004 Weblog Awards. Each Weblog Award category has a post for nominations listed here. Leave your nominees (name and URL) in the comment section to the applicable post. Eventually each post will have the award lineup listed and a link to the poll. Voting should begin around December 1, 2004.
A note about nominations...
To maximize participation there will be as little overlap in the selection of finalists in the categories as possible. Blogs will generally only be finalists in one category, so blogs should be nominated in categories they best fit in. For example, a brand new blog is not likely to be one of the finalists for Best Overall Blog. That brand new blog does stand a chance of making it in as a finalist in a Ecosystem category (where it would be matched against simillarly new or small blogs), so that's a better place to nominate it. View nominating instructions (popup window).
If you are linking to the contest please use the nomination category archive, as it contains all relevant posts. By linking to the category you can see all the nominating posts on one screen. Of course if you are free to link to which ever nomination post you want as well.
The Ecosystem categories are based on the Ecosystem rankings as of November 19, 2004. You should nominate for those categories based on the current Ecosystem standings at the time of your nomination. I realize these are fluid, but the Ecosystem categories are pretty broad - most blogs aren't moving rapidly up or down. We'll adjust placement as necessary after the nominiations are closed.
Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:

Posted by Kevin Aylward at November 19, 2004 08:00 PM | TrackBackI'd like to shamelessly nominate myself for the Best of the Ecosystem Top 500 - (Large Mammals) category:

Do not leave nominations here. I'll be adding the category nomination posts throughout the evening.
Posted by: Kevin at November 19, 2004 04:10 PMWhat happens when you have a blog that doesn't fit the categories but made a big impact this year?
Posted by: JimK at November 19, 2004 11:40 PMMaybe I'm missing something, but how does one get listed in the "Ecosytem rankings"? Does anyone know? I use site meter, and my average daily visits(18) would put me in the 3001-3500 rank range. However, I'm not in there...
Any ideas?
Posted by: bheagle at November 20, 2004 03:45 AMbheagle, Have you added your url?
Posted by: tallglassofmilk at November 20, 2004 05:36 PMThanks tallglassofmilk, I will give that a try.
Posted by: bheagle at November 20, 2004 06:42 PMI nominate www.whatsnextblog.com under the best media/journalist category.
Posted by: Allen Barkus at November 20, 2004 07:45 PMMaybe I missed it, but I'm not seeing a best Military Blog. Is that not a category?

I nominate myself for Best Culture Blog
Posted by: Frank DiSalle at November 21, 2004 09:05 AMIf there is a Milblog category, I nominate BLACKFIVE. I'll meet anybody in the alley outside the Blogosphere who disagrees.
Posted by: Frank DiSalle at November 21, 2004 09:09 AMFrank, not only do you ignore the moderator's simple request (ok, straight forward instruction) not to post nominations, you post three times and try to start a fight. Is that the moral highground you guys are always talking about? You really are worse than those liberals.
Posted by: Clay Richards at November 21, 2004 09:31 AMI wonder if you might add a category, "Best Blawg"? There are a lot of great law-focused blogs out there.
Posted by: Jennifer at November 21, 2004 04:14 PMIs the Ecosystem really any kind of indicator? If you join a large number of groups that have auto-blogrolling, your site shows up on every single one of them. Huge, whether anyone reads your stuff, visits, or not.
Saying that, it's really pretty clear who in the blogosphere are the real movers--based on comments posted and hits.
Posted by: Mike at November 21, 2004 06:36 PMI nominate Bamapachyderm for best new blog.
Posted by: Yourmother at November 21, 2004 08:11 PMMilitary Blog as a category is missing.
So I submit in either best Community or the Top 500 Ranking:
Sgt. Hook - amazing writer, incredible soldier, currently stationed in Afghanistan.
Thanks!
Posted by: michele at November 21, 2004 08:49 PMAnother shameless nomination for my site.
Posted by: ThaSickness at November 22, 2004 02:43 AMBOifromTroy is the best in GBLT category and sports category
Posted by: Jeff at November 22, 2004 03:06 AMBest New Blog (Established 2004)
Why have you arbitrarily decided that the "Best New Blog" can only have been created in the last 10 1/2 months instead of the last calendar year? If I create a new blog on December 31st, and it turns out to be the biggest hit of 2005, I'll be ineligible to even be nominated next year because I dared to start it during the evil "off-month"! That's just silly.
Make it November-to-November or something, but don't lock out potential nominees just because they started their blogs last December.

Slant quizzes and related materials.

I would like to request a category for "Best Sex Blog" for next year, along with "Best Military Blog".
Posted by: shell at November 22, 2004 03:29 PMAlso for next year: Best Blog for a Cause (charitable cause, not political cause! :))
