The Belmont Club is really good, but it's a group blog, I kind of see this as a category for individuals, and as such, I see a big fat tie, here:

A tie between www.ejectejecteject.com and Wretchard at Belmont Club.

You have to read the solo work of Dervala Hanley at http://www.dervala.net before you decide on this competitive category. Some of her essays are three paragraphs long and they pack the punch of a page-length editorial in a mainstream paper.

I'm not sure if she falls under the essayist category, but Lorianne is a student of Thoreau (and a professor too!) and it shows. Brilliant, beautiful writing.

Don't let the name fool you, it packs a punch. It is to the point and will excite your mind and stir the emotions. The comments left behind by fellow readers are thoughtful and stirring as well. Better yet check it out for yourself.
This site is my first stop.
Enjoy

Wretchard at the Belmont Club

There is no question - regardless of one's views on politics - that Belmont Club is a work of art and that Wretchard is unsurpassed in the quality of his essays, as many other bloggers have also noted.
