Blog Name: 365 and a Wake Up
http://thunder6.typepad.com/365_arabian_nights/
Feed: http://thunder6.typepad.com/365_arabian_nights/index.rdf

This is an easy choice for me. I've read this blog off and on and am always impressed by the depth, talent, and humanity he brings to the subject as a soldier in Iraq. His tender tributes to those who've fallen, his loving portraits of the good people in Iraq, and his honesty in facing fears and doubts make this blog a winner.

Murdoc Online

Murdoc is the best. Clearly. And not just because he links me.

Officers' Club, without doubt. Has quickly become one of the most respected milblogs in the blogosphere.

Good enough for guys like Cliff May and Glenn Reynolds, it is good enough for me.

Michael Yon
http://michaelyon.blogspot.com

Is the best choice because he has such an impact outside of the blog-o-sphere. And a very close 2d is:

356 And a Wakeup
http://thunder6.typepad.com

for his outstanding observations that SHOULD have more impact outside of the cyber world. Honorable mention to

ARMOR GEDDON
http://avengerredsix.blogspot.com

For and outstanding book in the making.

Tough choice, but I have to go with:

365 and a Wakeup
http://thunder6.typepad.com/

Danjel's writing just takes you there. Lots of good writers out there, but this one tells the facts in such rich wording, it's like a good novel, not reality.

SGT HOOK

http://www.sgthook.com/

I haven't met or read to many great writers in my time. He is truly one of the best. Honest, true and virtuous man...this is Sgt Hook! A true defender/protector of our great nation.

I can't get enough of this soldiers writing!

Even though he is a Jets fan... he never let's you down. You can always count on a great read.

Enough said....

Michael is Army infantry IN IRAQ and still manages to have an incredible sense of humor...He hasn't posted in a bit, but hopefully that means he's on his way home...
So, I nominate one of the best Milblogs that gets the least recognition:

P.S. Don't you have to be IN the military to have a Milblog? ...just sayin'.

ALA, to join the Milblogs ring one must be either currently serving or have once served. Not sure if you have a question regarding a nominee, but Greyhawk can easily verify who is or isn't a Milblog. We're registered.

Posted by: Sgt Hook at November 20, 2005 06:00 PM

This is tough as there are so many good ones. Yet One Marine's View is the best! Go Captain B!

Posted by: Cheryl at November 20, 2005 06:43 PM

Any woman that can serve her country in Iraq as a medic and manage to maintain a site saluting fallen soldiers while dealing with an onslaught of vicious and malicious trolls and hackers deserves some recognition, doggone it!

I nominate

Vodkapundit turned me on to this new one: Officer's Club

http://officersclub.blogspot.com

I don't have a good pitch line for it. I just like the fact that they are all military officers and they are so casual and expert in their topics.

Also I think they're Glenn Reynolds and Jonah Goldberg's new favorite. I like celebrity endorsements lol.

Michael Yon

There are many excellent blogs listed here, including (the now off-line) Armorgeddon. However, to the best of my knowledge there's only one among them that deserves the equivalent of a blog Pulitzer: Yon's renowned "Gates of Fire", covering the firefight involving LTC Kurilla [http://michaelyon.blogspot.com/2005/08/gates-of-fire.html]. Plenty of deserving bloggers have written consistently excellent military pieces, but in this case Yon's provided citizen reporting at its best.

This is a tough category there are so many great milblogs.

I like murdoc, but I'm going to nominate the Officers' Club. I just like the way they went the whole Army, Navy, Air Force officer route.

Mudville Gazette is my favorite military site - love their stories, and the links; also found out through them about "Soldiers Angels," so we could participate in that program.

Favorite history and current events: Gates of Vienna, great insight there, and good links.

The Stupid Shall be Punished

http://bubbleheads.blogspot.com/

Posted by: Alex Nunez at November 24, 2005 09:44 AM

I just saw his book, in the "Current Events" section, when I went to Barnes & Noble earlier this evening:

My War
(Colby Buzzell)

And from looking at what I commented last year, I want to nominate El Cid's "Southern Loyalist" as well. I just saw that it has been on hiatus since June, though.

One more thing, before I resume (or perhaps start? ;-) working on my paper... I wanted to say, for the same reasons as last year, that I hope that the weblog of "Operation Truth" is chosen this time around. I think that its inclusion in this balloting, or the inclusion of another like-minded blog, such as that of Spc. Colby Buzzell (though due to its more-frequent updates, the Op Truth blog may be more appropriate for this type of contest).

If the nominations are still open, I want to nominate a few other milibloggers...

Ken Talton (who is 35 years old and is currently in the military):

Brickmuppet Blog
http://brickmuppet.blogspot.com

Also, I just went over to his site, and I see that Andrew Olmsted is once again blogging (I had thought that he had gone on hiatus, but apparently his blogging didn't stop for long - if at all!). Andrew is an excellent and principled blogger, who has a military background, and frequently writes about those issues (I am not sure whether he is still in the military, or is retired).

http://www.andrewolmsted.com
http://andrewolmsted.com/index.rdf

Also, Jo Fish's well-designed site should be included here:
Democratic Veteran
http://www.usndemvet.com/blog
http://www.usndemvet.com/blog/index.xml

Ken is a conservative, Andrew is a libertarian, and Jo is a liberal.

And no listing of milibloggers would be complete without the inclusion of Captain Jason Van Steenwyk, who was actually blogging when he was abroad, serving in "Operation Iraqi Freedom"... I don't know where exactly he is right now, but I am glad that his superb weblog is still running. Captain Steenwyk's blog was the first one listed is the "Finding Blogs" box in the USA Today article on the milibloggers. (Though I disagree with him on some issues, I greatly admire this active-duty miliblogger for the principled honesty he maintains in his writing, and for the insightful analyses he provides.)

I thought I should give these fine current and retired servicemen a chance to be on the ballot, for this annual contest. (I don't think any of them have been, in previous years.) Thanks for conducting this Kevin, and I hope that you and yours are having a good Thanksgiving weekend.
